2021 VW Atlas New Features, Changes and Additions
It may seem like the 2020 model-year vehicles just hit Nova Scotian dealerships, and they basically did. But some automakers are getting a head-start already on 2021; Volkswagen is one such company. The 2021 Volkswagen Atlas has already entered the world, and it boasts some new alterations to set it apart from even the also-recent 2020 incarnation.
As you’re likely finding the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas alongside 2020 models in Volkswagen dealerships, you may be wondering: what has Volkswagen added to the 2021 Atlas?
For 2021, VW has given the Atlas a facelift, new technology, and expanded all-wheel drive availability. The sum total is a vehicle that vibes better with its new younger brother, the VW Atlas Cross Sport.

Design Changes
The front fascia of the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas now boasts a more aggressive, commanding look similar to the two-row VW Atlas Cross Sport. This facelift will be apparent to the dedicated observer.
Front and rear bumpers have been reshaped, adding nearly three inches to the overall length. Chrome lines now span the width between the headlights. The lights themselves are now more angular and aggressive.
One difference from the Cross Sport is the lower air intakes, meaning that the front facias of the two vehicles are not exactly the same. If you’re wondering if you and your six friends will all be able to fit inside an approaching VW SUV, check the air intakes. They’ll tell you whether or not two unfortunate friends need to be left on the curb.
Expanded All-Wheel Drive Availability
For the 2021 VW Atlas, all-wheel drive is now available on both engines, instead of just the 3.6-liter V6. As a result, buyers can now get all-wheel drive for a cheaper price. Both engines are still paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Interior Additions
New interior features for the 2021 model year of the Atlas include:
- New steering wheel
- Optional contrast stitching on leather interiors
- 8.0-inch infotainment system (on all but the base model)
- Some SE models also now get the option of a panoramic sunroof, and the option of a towing package with the V-6 engine.
